Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Ben Watt and singer Tracey Thorn formed this melancholy duo as college students in 1982 in Hull, England. Their sound is a mix of folk, jazz and soul. The 1995 smash hit Missing made them club sensations before hitting No. 2 on the U.S. pop charts. With their next album, 1996s Walking Wounded, their orchestral, mellow style organically evolved into electronica.Reviews
