After the rap trio House of Pain disbanded in 1996, Everlast (born Erik Schrody) reinvented himself and released Whitey Ford Sings the Blues in 1998. The critically praised and commercially successful album (it eventually sold more than 2 million copies) combined subtle hip-hop textures with bluesy folk rock and understated vocals. He continued in the roots-rap vein with Eat at Whitey's in 2000 and White Trash Beautiful in 2004.Reviews
