Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on March 25, 1947, in Middlesex, England, Elton John became a piano-rock superstar. He is known almost as much for his flamboyant persona and outfits (lamé capes, powdered wigs, jeweled glasses) as for his knack for writing catchy melodies. With lyricist Bernie Taupin, John released numerous hit singles from the 70s up through the 90s. His 1975 release, Captain Fantastic, was the first album to ever debut at No. 1 on the American charts. John collaborated with lyricist Tim Rice for the soundtrack for Disneys animated film The Lion King in 1994 and Broadway play Aida in 1999.Reviews
