Emerging from the cutting edge of New York City's gay downtown scene, Scissor Sisters formed in 2001 at a Lower East Side cabaret show and made a splash in the U.K. in late 2003 with their disco-pop version of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb." Named after a lesbian sex position, the band features singers Jake Shears and Ana Matronic, keyboardist-bassist Babydaddy, guitarist Del Marquis and drummer Paddy Boom. Their theatrical live shows incorporate elements of burlesque, drag shows and performance art, while their glam rock grooves sound like the best of Elton John, David Bowie and the B-52'sartists who merged flashy style with campy pop. The single "Laura," from their self-titled debut, launched Scissor Sisters stateside in July 2004.Reviews
