Born in Kentucky and raised in Ohio, Dwight Yoakam learned to play the guitar at age 6. He dropped out of Ohio State University in the late 1970s and moved to Nashville to pursue a career in country music. Yoakam soon relocated to Los Angeles, where he played a blend of roots country and rock & roll at punk nightclubs. Yoakams debut, Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc., released on Reprise Records in 1986, was critically praised and eventually went platinum. His 1987 follow-up, Hillbilly Deluxe, was also a success, producing the hit singles "Little Sister" and "Please, Please Baby." Yoakam sold platinum again with his fourth and fifth albums (1990s If There Was a Way and 1993s This Time). He also persued an acting career, appearing in Sling Blade and other projects.Reviews
