Simple Minds
Glasgow natives Jim Kerr (vocals) and Charlie Burchill (guitar) formed the electropop band Simple Minds in 1978, adding Brian McGee on drums, Mick McNeil on keyboards and Tony Donald (soon to be replaced by Derek Forbes) on bass. They released their debut album, Life in a Day, in 1979, and charted in the United States in 1982 with their fifth album, New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84). Their real success came a few years later in 1985 with the release of the single “Don’t You (Forget About Me),” which was featured on the soundtrack to the John Hughes film The Breakfast Club.
