DJ Shadow

DJ Shadow (born Josh Davis) grew up in a San Francisco suburb listening to DJ-heavy hip-hop. While attending college, he hooked up with Lyrics Born and the members of Blackalicious to form SoleSides Records. The buzz surrounding his early ’90s mix tapes, Reconstructed From the Ground Up, eventually made its way to the London-based record label, Mo’Wax, which released his full-length debut, Endtroducing…, in 1996. Shadow is considered a leader in the experimental hip-hop style associated with the label.
