This Glasgow-by-way-of-Ireland outfit had been climbing U.K. charts since 1998 — with their debut album, Songs for Polar Bears, and then in 2001 with When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up — but it took 2004's Final Straw to finally reach Stateside rock fans. Though they're most often compared to Brit-poppers Coldplay, Snow Patrol delve deeper sonically, liberally using samples, employing complex string arrangements and lush arrangements, while still throwing down the occasional meaty hook.
