Dido
Dido (born Dido Florian Cloud de Bounevialle Armstrong) mastered the piano, recorder and violin by the time she was 10. During her teens, she traveled with a classical music ensemble before linking with a series of bands in and around London. Most noteworthy was Faithless, a trip-hop group fronted by her older brother, Rollo. In 1995 Dido collaborated on Faithless' first album,
Reverence, which sold over 5 million copies. She then began writing her own material, eventually assembling an album's worth of demos. On the merit of these demos, Dido signed to Arista Records and released her debut album,
No Angel, in 1999. Her song "Here With Me" became the theme song for the American television series
Roswell, but perhaps the greatest boost to Dido's overall exposure, however, came in 1999 when rapper Eminem sampled "Thank You" for his hit single "Stan."
