Destiny’s Child
The pop juggernaut was formed in Houston in 1990, with 9-year-olds Beyoncé Knowles and LaTavia Roberson. Upon adding Kelly Rowland and LeToya Luckett, they scored their first big hit in 1998, when “No No No” topped the R&B charts. The Writing’s on the Wall yielded pop chart No. 1 songs in 1999 “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Say My Name.” By the time the smoke cleared after a series of personnel changes, the remaining trio of Knowles, Rowland and Michelle Williams recorded the single “Independent Women Pt. 1,” which spent 11 weeks at No. 1. They released the multiplatinum Survivor in 2001.
