Deftones

Deftones were the group best equipped to transcend the rap-metal eruption of the '90s. The group formed in 1988 in Sacramento, California, while Chino Moreno (vocals), Stephen Carpenter (guitar) and Abe Cunningham (drums) were still in high school. Bassist Chi Cheng later filled out the lineup. They released their debut album, Adrenaline, on Maverick Records in 1995, followed in 1997 by Around the Fur, which produced the hit single "My Own Summer (Shove It)." Adding DJ Frank Delgado to the lineup, the Deftones experimented with a more melodic, electronic sound for their 2000 release, White Pony. In 2003 they released their fourth studio album, Deftones, which went to No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the hit "Minerva."
