Born on June 20, 1953, in Queens and raised in Brooklyn, singer-songwriter-guitarist Cyndi Lauper became a leader of the MTV generation with her 1984 multiplatinum debut, Shes So Unusual. The album spawned the 80s teen anthem Girls Just Want to Have Fun, as well as Time After Time, She-bop and All Through the Night. Her career ran out steam by the end of the decade, but 1997s Sisters of Avalon brought her new critical (if not commercial) success.Reviews
