The Bangles
Formed in Los Angeles in 1981, the Bangles — Susanna Hoffs (singer), sisters Debbi (drums) and Vicki Peterson (guitar), and Michael Steele (bass) — helped define '80s pop with their sunny harmonies and jangly echoes of the swingin' side of '60s folk-rock. They scored a moderate hit, "Hero Takes a Fall," with their debut album, 1984's All Over the Place, and two huge hits, "Walk Like an Egyptian" and the Prince-penned "Manic Monday," with their next album, 1985's Different Light. Despite the success of their third album, 1988's Everything, the Bangles disbanded the following year amid internal tensions. They reunited in 2001 and released Atomic Kitten.
