Following the breakout success of Dirty South rappers Nelly and Ludacris, St. Louis native Chingy saw his debut single "Right Thurr," released by Ludacris's Disturbing tha Peace label, peak at No. 4 on the Billboard album chart. Chingy (born Howard Bailey Jr.) started hanging around recording studios as a boy and signed with Ludacris in his late teens.
