The Doors
The Doors were formed in Los Angeles in 1965 by singer-songwriter Jim Morrison, guitarist Robby Krieger, drummer John Densmore and keyboardist Ray Manzarek. The success of their 1967 self-titled debut — which included the No. 1 hit "Light My Fire" and the psychedelic, 11-minute "The End" — immediately thrust them into the spotlight. The Doors continued to churn out legendary tracks such as "Hello, I Love You," "People Are Strange" and "Touch Me." The band was dealt a blow when Morrison, whose behavior had become increasingly erratic and self-destructive, was arrested and brought to trial for exposing himself to an audience during a Miami concert in 1969. While Morrison was appealing the guilty verdict, the Doors finished production on L.A. Woman — their last album before Morrison's death on July 3, 1971, in Paris of an apparent heart attack. In 1991 director Oliver Stone made the biographical film The Doors, starring Val Kilmer as Morrison. And in 1993 the Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
