Born in Macomb, Missouri, in 1979, Brandy Norwood grew up in California and sang in church youth groups. She decided she wanted to be a pop singer after hearing Whitney Houston on the radio. She scored a record deal with Atlantic in 1993 and her self-titled debut album (1995) launched a series of hits, including "I Wanna Be Down" and "Broken Hearted," and went platinum. After releasing the chart-smashing single "Sitting' up in My Room," from the 1995 Waiting to Exhale soundtrack, she turned to the acting, starring in the popular UPN sitcom Moesha in 1996 and in the teen slasher film I Still Know What You Did Last Summer in 1998. Brandy released her second album, Never Say Never, in 1998 followed by Full Moon in 2002.Reviews
