Vocalist Bono (born Paul Hewson on May 10, 1960), guitarist-keyboardist-vocalist the Edge (born David Evans on August 8, 1961), bassist AdamClayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. formed U2 as high school students in Dublin, Ireland, in 1976. U2 first took the No. 1 spot on the U.K. charts with 1983s War, which included the hit Sunday Bloody Sunday. One of the most successful bands in rock history, U2 combined lush guitar soundscapes and a driving, hard-rock rhythm section with a political lyrical zeal. Their 1987 release, The Joshua Tree, landed U2 on the cover of Time magazine as rock superstars.Reviews
