Vanessa Carlton

Singer-songwriter Vanessa Carlton composed her first piano piece at age 8 and was accepted to the School of American Ballet in New York City at age 14. Her frustration with the strictness of ballet drove her to back to the piano, and she began to perform at open-mic nights in clubs around New York. In 2002, after signing to Universal, she released her debut album, Be Not Nobody, which went multiplatinum and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart. She released her sophomore album, Harmonium, produced by her boyfriend, Third Eye Blind's Stephen Jenkins, in 2004.
