Formed in 1979, Washington, D.C.-based Bad Brains were widely considered the forefathers of the D.C. hardcore scene. The group-which featured guitarist Gary Miller (Dr. Know), singer Paul Hudson (HR), drummer Earl Hudson, and bassist Darryl Aaron Jenifer-mixed political reggae with U.K.-inspired hardcore for a series of legendary live performances and obscure independent releases. After 14 years on the fringe, Bad Brains released a major-label album, Rise, in 1993 and God of Love in 1995, to tepid reviews. In 1998 the band reunited under the name Soul Brains.Reviews
