Will Smith
Philadelphia native Will Smith has left his mark not only on the music industry but on television and film, as well. After meeting Jeff Townes at a house party in the mid-80s, the pair became known as DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince. Their comical angle on rap and catchy beats earned them hip-hops first ever Grammy for the 1988 hit single "Parents Just Dont Understand." In the 1990s, Smith became known for his role in the TV sitcom
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and later went on star in a number of blockbuster films, including
Independence Day, Men in Black, and
Men in Black II, Enemy of the State, and
Ali (for which he received an Oscar nomination.)
