As an opening band Children were amazing. The NY natives put their recorded tracks to shame last night with their live breakdowns and fast tempos and brought back a heavy and quick style, that makes you remember why you liked Metallica in the 80s. Trippy metal and hardcore finally meet. When they announced their last song a fan boo'd, to which Children responded with "Don't worry. Its a long one." Their song "Death Tribe" is about 10 minutes long.

TheĀ next act, Earthless, is an instrumental band from San Diego. After a few shout outs to their friends who had come out to the show, they continued their slow and heavy set. They regaled us with a half hour's worth of mystical journeys through snow capped mountains - at least in my head.

Witch were next, and played an amazing, heavy set. They are on the cusp of being a real stoner's metal band with their catchy riffs, uniquely timed buildups, and with Robert Plant/ 70's punk inspired type vocals - they fit a category all of their own. The Music Hall was packed full of metal aficionadosĀ and newcomers alike. Witch really fed off of each other more than anything, and just looked pleased to just be playing music with like minded individuals. They let the guitar work ride a little more than they do on their recorded material, creating a more mellow flowing atmosphere.

A good sense of humor was kept throughout the set. At one point between songs, a kid from the crowd just started screaming "CD-R's". Singer Kyle Thomas responded with "Are you saying 'cd-r'? Ok. This is a new song....its called CD-R" and began to play their new song "Seer."
