Radio On The TV: Week Of September 7, In Which We Say Goodbye To White Pants
As we've been saying for the past month, those final, pre-Labor Day weeks of summer are pretty slow on late night (or any other media) front, but darn if Jimmy Kimmel isn't using his supposed downtime to get some of that magic content out to the masses. Uploaded last week to his YouTube channel was last Wednesday's appearance by Texan Annie Clark, better known as St. Vincent. This riveting performance of "Marrow" is like a splash of cool water in the face, engaging and inspiring. Wake up, everyone—autumn is here (this means you, white pants-wearers).
And yes, that viral Hitler Spoof Thing (from a 2004 German film called Der Untergang, in case you were unaware) has finally gotten around to addressing the Oasis break-up situation. You see, Hitler had tickets for an upcoming Oasis gig in Germany and, well, he's just been told that Oasis no longer exist. Hitler's reaction is predictably—since you've probably seen a million of these spoofs in your inbox—volatile. And ultimately pretty funny.
This Week's Listings
Everyone's back to work (except for Carson Daly)! Yes! So what do we have going this week? On Conan, Tuesday's brings the mysterious "Dhani Harrison." Dhani is George Harrison's son of course, a seemingly good egg and not-so-bad musician himself. So will Dhani's band thenewno2 play? Or is Dhani there to talk The Beatles during their big (Rock Band, remasters releases) week?
Also notable this week, recuperating musician/pratfaller Steven Tyler drops by Letterman Thursday to deliver that evening's Top Ten List. And finally, do yourself a favor and catch country legend George Jones (celebrating his fiftieth year in country music) either Wednesday on Letterman or Friday on Fallon—the guy's more rock n' roll than you think, which explains why dudes like Jack White, Elvis Costello, and many others hold him in such high esteem. And next week? Get ready for the premiere of the The Jay Leno Show, whose first musical guest will be JAY-Z.
