Chickenfoot Turning Up The Heat

Have you heard of Chickenfoot yet? Chickenfoot is a small, Los Angeles rock band ready to release their debut album. The band is on a little tour right now. Oh, and their members are Sammy Hagar, Joe "F*ck Coldplay" Satriani, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith. You may have heard of them. All have successful careers. All have reputations for being nice, easy-going guys (I'm not exactly sure about Satriani in this regard, but he writes songs for his wife—the one he alleges Coldplay stole a melody from—so he must be an OK person). And all seem the type to want to get together and "jam."

Which is exactly what they've done. The band's self-titled debut is out June 9. They've even made a little video medley for your convenience (see below).

So... what does Chickenfoot sound like? Like early '80s, pre-Van Halen solo Hagar—gritty, guitary, screaming. A little bluesy. Good bar rock. Nothing wrong with that, dude.

And it has this neat-o CD cover! The idea is the product of inspiration in the face of intimidation. Muses packaging designer Todd Galloppo, "How was I going to design an album package for rock legends who have seen it all before?" Whoa, whoa, whoa... Chickenfoot aren't legends... YET. Oh wait, he meant the members' other projects. OK, they're all legends. And yes, deserving of unique packaging (see what I did there?). Let's take a look at the before and after shots. Here's the Chickenfoot CD booklet as is (untouched, that is to say):

And here it is once you get your grubby hands all over it, or hold it to your private bits:

Unfortunately, no one noticed that the 'k' is backwards. But who cares! The hotter it gets, the more you see! Speaking of seeing, you can see Chickenfoot on tour right now—a North American swing kicked off this week. Expect a lot of beer bellies and a whole lot of head-nodding and "sh*t yeah's!". In the summertime especially, that's not such a bad thing.

Only thing Joe has needed to up his game is vocals and MAN how can you miss with the red rocker AND rock's greatest back-up voice in Mikey A. Solid F-ing rock and roll the likes we haven't heard in a very long time. By the way, I still own Sammy's first LP, "Montrose". Not a shabby player on that, either. Bought it new, that's how long I've been rockin'. Keep it up boys and bring your shit to Nashville so I can feel it LIVE!!!

This CD is just... excellent. It's a "grower", like a lot of the classics tend to be. The 2nd half of this is just SOOOoooo good. "Future Is The Past" has this liquid guitar sound in parts that reminds me of Duran Duran's Warren Cuccurullo in "Come Undone" - just super original, not overdone or showy: But "KILLER" for the spirit of the song. "Learning To Fall" is the very BEST =VH= elements of "Dreams", "Not Enough", and "Mine All Mine" - but for a new muscle car rock n roll band for a new era. CHICKENFOOT is great on it *own* terms - after 3 listens, I began to laugh out loud in my car. It reminded me of high school in the 80s again. I never thought a new rock band and album would ever make me feel that way again... but this *does*. CHICKENFOOT is the real deal - give it 3 listens, 3 rubs on the magic cover, and wish for that ol' American 80s "Chevy Camaro" rock n roll feeling again...

I would like to say that chickenfoot sounds like chickenfoot. Shame on everybody who said they sound like Van Halen. I'm a big Sammy Hagar fan. He can't sing a bad song period. These guys are as original as can be. I can't wait to hear more of their music. By the way I bought the album because Sammy was in the group, what a surprise I got when I heard the instruments in the band. Very, very impressive guys, way to go.

It's so damn nice to hear some new straight forward rock and roll from you guys. I absolutely dig the cd and know (I'm from St. Louis so...) I know how great this new material is going to come across live. Sammy, Satch, Mikey, and Chad, RIGHT ON! The name Chickenfoot has totally grown on me too! ;) I think it's funny Dhani posted you guys are "modern hair metal". How out of touch, I lol'd.
