Remember Microsoft Songsmith? How could you forget. That stunningly irony-free tsunami of vomit-inducing, song-based advertising we recently brought you has gone global. It's everywhere; a full on sensation. It's even, dare we say it, viral. Even the New York Times knows about it now! And so do loads of clever lil' music lovers who have fed classic tunes into the Demon App just to hear what would come out. As you can imagine, it ain't pretty. Let's have a listen. The wondrous Wonderwall by Oasis is mangled, Songsmith-style, into a synth-laden overdose of Mancunian grit. Bonehead is spinning in his Definitely Maybe cover photo flat.
If some classic yacht rock is more your style, check out the wah pedal bonanza of the Doobie Brothers classic Long Time Runnin'.
How about the Fab Four? Songsmith removes all of the exuberance from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, transforming the rocker into a cocktail novelty.
No list would be complete without Greatest Band In The World Radiohead. Here's a special, so-very-special (in a bad way) version of Creep. Actually, this could be an Amnesiac b-side. Look out for the famous crescendo at 2:48, here rendered in side-splitting fashion.
Uh oh, I was worried about this: Rush, "performing" Tom Sawyer as 80s electro. Check out Neil Peart's awesome silent cymbal work!
Biggie's in the news... first the movie Notorious, now this. Born Again!
This version of The Police's Roxanne is all steel drums and little drinks with umbrellas. Maybe it's having watched so many of these, but this one is actually... tolerable? It's mesmerizing at least. I loved you since I knew ya, I wouldn't talk down to ya!
There's more where this came from. Do yourself a favor and and listen. Or maybe it's better if you didn't. NEVER AGAIN.
