"Kim & Jessie"
According to teen movie lore, the '80s was a magical time filled with innocence, wild parties and awesomely bad hair. Dream pop group M83's latest album, Saturdays = Youth, is a paean to that bygone era, filled with wispy vocals and New Order guitars. The band's nostalgia also floods into their videos, including this love letter to adolescent confusion, pink tutus and "Thriller"-style dance moves. "Kim and Jessie, they have a secret world in the twilight," starts M83 leader Anthony Gonzalez, and the titular stars are played here by a pair of budding roller skaters who apparently like to blow off high school steam by performing synchronized roller dances when nobody's looking. Rival yellow skaters try to break up the party before we're treated to perhaps the longest upskirt shots in music video history. So are Kim and Jessie friends or something more? A dreamy finale in a skate park reveals the answer ...
