Live: Small-Time Blog Nabs Big-Time Baldy

New York City-based blog Music Snobbery recently celebrated its three-year anniversary of Brit-popping existence with a show featuring a bunch of blog-friendly bands normal people have never heard of — who cares, right? But something happened on the way to the party; a week before the gig, one of the groups backed-out. What's a blogger to do? Piss himself? Write a drunken pity-blog conceding defeat? Ask Chris Castellani, owner of Music Snobbery and producer of the showcase. After approaching 61 (!) different New York-area acts to fill in the headlining slot and getting 61 "no"s (with excuses ranging from "drummer has no drums" to "what the hell is MusicSnobbery.com?"), he decided to try to contact bands way too big to ever play the show. So he reached out to Arcade Fire, Death Cab For Cutie and Moby. It was all a goof, but five days before the April 10 show, Moby sent an e-mail to Chris — the alt-rock journeyman was soon on board as the official headliner.
"I'm not sure whats wrong with me, but I have more fun playing shows for 200 people than for 10,000 people," said Moby after the performance. Playing a string of hits and a Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell," the set list went way over the required 10 songs — it was apparent Moby had a damn good time. A happy ending! And guess who blogged about it ...
