Late-Night Follies Dinosaur Jrs Happy Reunion Rolls On
In 2007, as every quasi-famous band of yesteryear returns for one more go-around, the Dinosaur Jr. reunion is still a welcomed comeback. The original trio of J. Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph add legitimacy to their second act this week with the release of new album Beyond, another blast of guitar distortion that at times even matches their '80s heyday. Thankfully stubborn to change, the group did their legacy justice with new song "Almost Ready" on Letterman last night. It's a three-chord rallying cry featuring tentative lyrics and confident craftsmanship: Mascis's stoic sway, Barlow's ageless spunk and Murph's brilliantly ham-fisted smacking are all lovingly intact. And then, after a couple quick solos backed by buzzing rhythms, it's over. Older, wiser. ![]()
