Jack White to Play Elvis Presley in New Comedy

jackelvis.jpgThings we know about Jack White: He’ll tear the lining of your stomach with a blistering guitar solo (it’s a good hurt), he loves Coca-Cola and he’s an unintentionally hilarious actor (see: Cold Mountain, every White Stripes video). But can he be funny on-screen on purpose? We’ll soon see, as the burgeoning thespian is in talks to play none other than Elvis Presley in the upcoming flick Walk Hard, which sounds like a Naked Gun–type parody of all those glorified Behind the Music episodes Hollywood is hocking nowadays (think Walk the Line, Ray). Cowritten by one of the funniest guys making movies today, The 40-Year-Old Virgin director Judd Apatow, and starring smart comic actors like The Office’s Jenna Fischer, John C. Reilly, the guy who played Letterman in The Late Shift and Tim Meadows, Walk Hard has the potential to be hilarious. Will Jack White screw it up? We’re going to have to wait about a year to find out, but either way, it’ll be worth it.
