Are they buggin’ ya? They don’t mean to bug ya. Our favorite moment in this exercise of egos gone amok comes during U2’s day trip to Graceland. As Bono mills about the trash-culture shrine, you can practically hear him shouting, “Look at us! Over here! We’re exploring American music and legend! And we’re Irish Irishmen from Ireland! Crazy, huh?” Happily, the well-deserved critical and commercial backlash prompted U2 to close up shop for a few years and return with their most sonically inventive record to date. See? Self-serious asshole critics can make a difference.
