Mariah Carey "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time"
Big day for Mariah! This track off the diva's new record (which we like very
much) has some
storied pop roots. It prominently features a sample from '80s funk
group DeBarge's "Stay With Me" — the same song that gave Biggie's "One More Chance" its
slinky groove. And it's produced by DJ Toomp a.k.a. the guy
who gave T.I.'s gargantuan "What You Know" its oomph. While Toomp made
his name based on huge synth-based tunes, this sample-based track
sounds like something a pre-techno Kanye West would come up with
(coincidentally, he co-produced three tracks on Kanye's Graduation last
year). The song is built for good times as it makes everlasting love
sound as a flighty and free as a one night stand. "You don't even gotta
worry about a thing, I got you, babe," hums the 38-year-old, her
worries and insecurities outsourced to another continent. Springtime
music of the highest caliber.
