Lloyd "Year of the Lover"
On the best song from his new album, Lessons in Love, this Michael
Jackson-worshiping crooner threatens to hold his lady hostage,
mess-up her makeup and cook her on a stove. It may sound hostile on
paper, but, along with Usher's "Love in This Club," this song is the most seductive thing we've heard all year. The Atlanta heartthrob is clearly
inspired by M.J. and R. Kelly but doesn't come with any creep show
baggage. No kinky (and just plain wrong) sex trials for Lloyd.
So when he claims it's "the year of the lover," the come-on
successfully brings astrology into the bedroom. "Let's make a baby,
let's do something crazy," he sings, obviously caught up in the moment.
But this song exists on a plane where there are no consequences, no
child support, nothing but the best sex of your life. Carnal escapism
that would make Marvin sway and snap.
