Graft Alert: The Ultimate Tiny iPod Speaker Thing

8-18-08-ids2.jpgBlender's pledge: We will review every new piece of technology sent to our office, as long as it's expensive. Case in point: Our wonderful, wonderful friends at Boston Acoustics sent us the new Horizon i-DS2 iPod Speaker System, and to be honest, when we saw the small footprint we assumed it would sound like a cat jammed inside an oil drum. Wrong! The frame is sleek and European — even if you hate Apple, you have to admit they've inspired much better design in music technology — and although we have no idea what "15 watts RMS/30 watts Dynamic Output Power per channel" actually means, we do know the i-DS2 puts singing voices front and center and builds a solid thump in the bass without resorting to artificial stimulants. Amazingly, it even makes MP3s sound warmer, and the remote means you can shuffle an R. Kelly playlist while running your dockable iPod in the bedroom. You can even change the color of the front grille, as long as you're not embarrassed to tell friends, "Oh, that color is called 'rose bud.'" A great desktop music system, even if you have to pay for it.

Here's what we at the well-appointed Graft Alert offices are hoping for next: the ReQuest Intelligent Media Client, a massive hard drive that would allow us to rip all 2,500 of our CDs and access them from remote locations. It makes visiting grandma in Florida a whole lot more bearable.
