The Latest in Tours

burner_franzFerdinand_article.jpgThe tickets for Britain’s Glastonbury Festival went on sale Sunday—roughly eight months before the 2009 event—and more than half of the 137,500 entrances have already been sold. The big headliners will be announced shortly; meanwhile, Franz Ferdinand and The Ting Tings have been confirmed as performers.

If you haven’t heard of the Toronto hardcore band Fucked Up, you may be able to hear a lot of them really soon, because the group are playing a 12-hour show today at Manhattan’s Rogan store (located at Bowery and Bond) to celebrate the release of their CD, The Chemistry of Modern Life. That’s half a day, people! More incentive: Tiny Mix Tapes reports the band’s label, Matador, as saying, “All ages are welcome to attend though the free alcohol will be limited to those 21 and over.”

Ixnay on that Dire Straits reunion tour—frontman Mark Knopfler isn’t just ready yet to get on the bus. “I think we’ve definitely got one more tour left in us, and probably another record too," says bassist John Illsley. “[But] he’s doing different kinds of music now.”

Update: The Killsmissing tour bus has been found in Los Angeles, with band equipment in tow. The whereabouts of the driver, however, are still unknown.

Here’s a line-up definitely worth checking out live: The Mad Decent tour, featuring Diplo (who’s produced M.I.A. and Santogold), Abe Vigoda (the band, not the man), Boy 8-Bit, and Telepathe. Dates and tickets here. Gorilla vs. Bear, incidentally, has a contest going for free tickets.
