In the latest case of an artist finding himself or herself unwittingly singing conservative rallly songs, Heart and Van Halen are taking on the Maverick and the ‘Cuda (McCain/Palin’s respective nicknames for the uninitiated) for using their songs without permission. Heart sent a cease and desist after “Barracuda” was played during Palin’s intro, just before McCain’s acceptance speech and once again at the closing of the RNC. "The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission," a Heart spokesperson told TMZ. Then Van Halen—well, technically Van Hagar—got all torqued off that “Right Now” closed the McCain speech Thursday night.
For those keeping score, VH and Heart join angered artists John Mellancamp (pissed at McCain for using “Pink Houses” and “Our Country”), John Hall (the shirtless beardo, above, in ‘Orleans-turned New York State Congressman was mad at George W. Bush in 2004 and McCain this year for using his “Still the One”), Bruce Springsteen (pissed at Reagan for using “Born in the U.S.A.”), and Jackson Browne (sued McCain for using “Running on Empty”). Brooks and Dunn, it should be noted, are psyched that both Barack Obama and George W. Bush have used their song, “Only in America.”
Would it kill these guys to rock a little Foghat? |
